About
A Garden First, Buildings Second
A boutique wellness and retreat sanctuary in North Bali
Alamanda began as a family garden on the hill behind Kalibukbuk, and the buildings came afterwards, which is why the planting is older than the walls and keeps arriving through them.
It is deliberately small. Twelve units, one Shala, two pools, one kitchen. At that size the team knows everyone's name by the second morning, breakfast can be late, and a retreat group can take the whole place without displacing a hotel's worth of other guests.
We are not a resort with a yoga class on the timetable. The practice, the food and the garden are the same project, run by people who live in Buleleng and intend to still be here in twenty years.

How we work
Four things we hold to
Small on purpose
Twelve units. We have turned down every plan to build more.
Local by default
Teachers, therapists, drivers and crew are all from North Bali.
Honest about what we are not
No beach club, no spa palace, no nightlife. Lovina at nine in the evening is quiet.
Water and waste
Filtered refill stations instead of plastic bottles, and garden greywater irrigation.
Guests
In their words
“We came for four nights and moved everything around so we could stay eleven. The morning practice, then the sea. I have never slept like that.”
Marieke · Utrecht
“I brought fourteen students. The Shala, the food and the team made my job almost invisible, I could actually teach.”
Élodie · Retreat facilitator, Lyon
“North Bali is a different island. Quiet roads, dolphins at six, and this garden to come back to.”
James · Melbourne
