Out on a jukung before the light, back for breakfast.
You leave the beach in the dark on a jukung, the narrow outrigger the Lovina fishermen use, and are a kilometre out when the sun comes up behind the volcanoes.
Spinner dolphins move through this stretch of the Bali Sea most mornings. Our crew keeps distance and cuts the engine rather than chasing, which means fewer photographs and a better morning for the animals.
Dolphins are wild. Perhaps one morning in eight you see none, and the sunrise has to be enough, which, from a small boat on flat water, it usually is.
